The Gadsden/Etowah County Emergency Management Agency (G/ECEMA) in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries State Agriculture Emergency Response Team (SART), and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), will be hosting an ESF-11 (Agriculture and Natural Resources) Workshop entitled “Animals in Disasters” on 24 – 26 March 2010. The workshop will be conducted over a three (3) day period, with each day addressing different issues concerning animals in disasters.
Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance for those days attended, and certificate of completion for the first two days of the workshop, if each day is attended. The workshop will begin each day at 8:30 am and conclude at 4:30 pm.
Attendees may attend one day of the workshop or all three days. Listed below are the topics for each day of the workshop.
24 March, Day 1 - (Meal Provided) – Agricultural Preparedness Response. Dr. Brad Fields of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries State Agriculture Emergency Response Team will act as the facilitator for this day of training. This training will focus on preparedness and response actions to a foreign animal disease (FAD) outbreak within the local area. This target audience for this training is animal owners, first responders, EMA Staff, Farm Extension Staff, and all others who may become involved in agricultural response. This training will be conducted at the Arthur Green Room in Gadsden’s Convention Hall, located at 344 South First Street, Gadsden, AL.
25 March, Day 2 – Domestic Animal Response. Mindy Gilbert of the HSUS will act as the facilitator for this day of training. This training will focus on domestic animal preparedness and response actions during times of disaster. This target audience for this training is animal owners, first responders, animal care staff, EMA Staff, and all others who may become involved in disaster response operations. This training will be conducted at the Arthur Green Room in Gadsden’s Convention Hall, located at 344 South First Street, Gadsden, AL.
26 March, Day 3 – Animal Planning for Disasters. This training will focus on the planning issues which arise during animal disaster planning. Mr. Charles Williams of Alabama Emergency Management Agency will facilitate this discussion of animal planning issues and ways to insure that jurisdictions ESF-11 plans will fulfill needed operational requirements. This target audience for this training is planning staff of the various agencies which may become involved in disaster response operations. This training will be conducted at the Gadsden/Etowah County Emergency Operations Center, located at 90 Broad St, Gadsden, AL.
